A collection of etudes written for right-handed drummers who have a natural tendency to play more with their right hand than their left, which results in a disparity in speed, control, or endurance. Skill differences between hands affect not only the sound of snare drum etudes or pieces but translate later to most percussion instruments, including: xylophone, timpani, vibraphone, marimba, and the drum kit. Left-hand etudes are intended to help level out these disparities. They favor the number of notes in a measure for the left hand and start rhythmic patterns with it. They require the player to involve the left hand more in starting rhythms, executing them precisely, and achieving a uniform sound, which effectively balances the technical skills of both hands.
