Description
The Chao Gong is a very elegant and distinctive gong that produces a long-sustaining, full, and rich sound. Its beauty and traditional appearance make it a centerpiece of any space, both indoors and outdoors. Chao-style gongs originate from China, dating back to the Han Dynasty, where they were used, among other things, during spiritual sessions and large gatherings. In modern times, Chao gongs have found their place in various musical genres, particularly in symphony orchestras. The Chao Gong, otherwise known as a tam-tam, is one of the most famous Chinese gongs. The Chao gong differs in shape from the Wind gong by having a rim around the outer edge. It is made of a bronze alloy consisting of approximately 80% copper and 20% tin, and the manufacturing process is a blend of hand-hammering and lathing the bronze while carefully heating and cooling the metal. On a Chao gong, the central area and the outer edge retain the black copper oxide that forms during the gong's creation. On the rest of the gong, this coating is removed and the surface is polished. Chao gongs are available in various sizes, with each size having its own distinct, full sound. Smaller sizes have a rich but higher sound, while larger sizes are deeper and sound longer and with more power.
Includes a gong mallet in a dedicated size.
