Description
The Earth Gong is an unlathed gong. After being removed from the furnace, it was only cleaned of slag. Most Chinese gongs have this color when they come out of the mold, but they are subsequently processed to achieve different tones. In the world of gongs, it is good to remember that the smaller the gong, the clearer the tone. The rawer the finish, the slower the gong responds. The Earth Gong, with its unpolished outer surface, retains a deeper tone. It does not open up like a Wind Gong or even a Chao. Its sound is very complex, dry, and raw, without a distinct fundamental tone. Furthermore, Earth Gongs are great for engraving due to the high contrast created between the engraved image and the raw surface of the gong.
A gong mallet of the dedicated size is included in the set.
