Description

When you have the opportunity to work with a drummer who has performed with such a wide range of artists as Steely Dan, Toto, Wayne Krantz, James Taylor, Tal Wilkenfeld, John Mayer, Sting, Chris Botti and many others… The question remains, why not create a custom snare drum with him? His rhythmic expression behind the drum kit is so musical and so inspiring to many musicians around the world that Gretsch Drums asked themselves this question and is honored to present the Keith Carlock Signature snare drum.

Keith has always been an admirer of brass snare drums, but those that have a more aged and "tired" look. One key requirement Keith had for the drum: a wide range of sonic applications to meet the diverse demands of studio work. So that's where Gretsch started.

The foundation of the drum is a 14x5.5" brass shell, 2mm thick, in Vintage Patina style. To capture the "antique" look of the entire shell, a unique aging compound was developed at the Gretsch factory in Ridgeland, South Carolina. To increase dynamics and tone range, Keith decided to equip the snare drum with 20-strand snare wires. He also chose a standard Permatone drumhead instead of our Permatone Control Sound.

The bearing edges are cut at 45 degrees, and the hoops are 4mm die-cast. Each snare drum features an internal identification label specifying the year of production and each is signed by Keith himself.

The snare drum is definitely unique in many ways and can surprise even the most demanding drummers with its qualities.
