Playing Area

The SPD-SX features nine highly sensitive rubber pads, plus two knobs and four dedicated real-time effect buttons. Roland's latest triggering technology ensures exceptional accuracy and full dynamic control, while the large backlit LCD provides readability in all conditions. LED indicators located at each pad show the current status. When phrases are triggered, the LEDs light up to show which pad is currently playing and which is not. Additionally, the LED brightness changes according to the audio level (similar to level meters on a mixer). High-contrast red divider lines increase pad visibility on stage.

More and more drummers and percussionists want to incorporate audio samples into their performances. The SPD-SX satisfies their growing requirements, such as an individual click output, dedicated volume control, Pad Check function, additional Sub Out, and many more.

Onboard Effects

The SPD-SX has three onboard multi-effects: one master effect and two others assignable per kit. The master effect allows you to perform like a DJ in real-time with dedicated front-panel controllers. Four buttons and two knobs serve for filtering, applying repeats, as well as controlling a short looper and user-assigned effects.

Multi-Pad Sampling

The SPD-SX is much more capable than it appears at first glance. Despite its ease of use, it possesses enormous potential, such as Multi-Pad Sampling. While audio streams from an external player or computer (via Audio In or USB), striking the pads at the right moments starts and stops the recording, and samples are automatically truncated and assigned to the pads. This is a quick and easy way to create multi-sampled phrases and maps.

SPD-SX Wave Manager Software Included

The SPD-SX's generous internal memory (4 GB) allows for the storage of an entire sample library. Approximately 720 minutes of 16-bit 44.1 kHz mono audio (10,000 files) can be held without needing external memory. The built-in USB port allows for importing files directly from USB flash memory. The included SPD-SX Wave Manager software imports audio files directly from a computer via USB, assigns samples to each pad, and efficiently manages thousands of samples.
