ROLAND VAD516 V-Drums Acoustic Design – electronic drum kit with V51 module

Roland VAD516 electronic drum kit belongs to the V-Drums Acoustic Design series. It combines the look of an acoustic drum kit with electronic drum functions, digital pads, and the V51 sound module.

The configuration includes a five-piece kit with a full-size 20" bass drum, digital snare, digital hi-hat, digital ride, two crashes, and toms in full-bottom wooden shells. The Midnight Sparkle finish gives the kit a look close to classic acoustic drum sets.

The V51 module offers an extensive sound library, editing tools, and support for digital pads. It allows adjustment of tuning, muffling, head type, effects, and sound parameters of individual kit elements. The module also works with DW Soundworks software, the Roland Cloud Connect app, the V51 Software Companion Editor, and the V-Drums Play app.

The kit uses digital snare, hi-hat, and ride pads, which read articulation, strike position, and playing technique more accurately. The digital hi-hat provides precise open and closed position detection, while the digital ride supports playing zones and hand-choke function.

The toms have dual-ply mesh heads with tension adjustment, which gives quieter operation than classic rubber pads and a more natural stick rebound. The 20" bass drum has a full shell, which better reflects the look and setup known from an acoustic drum kit.
