Description
Virgil Donati has pushed the boundaries of drumming with his innovative use of percussion, extremely complex rhythms, creative phrasing, and extreme speeds. Naturally, he also set out to design a unique, versatile snare drum. Inspired by the Reference series, the snare features an 8-ply 50/50 maple and birch shell with a rounded bearing edge. Thicker shells provide greater volume, and the Virgil Donati Signature snare with its 8-ply shell is very loud; however, Virgil wanted more, hence the addition of birch inner plies, which makes the sound brighter. The rounded top bearing edge provides the right amount of controlled overtones and allows the snare to play wide open without muffling in many situations. Tube lugs, die-cast hoops, and a stunning gloss lacquer are the perfect finishing touches to this outstanding instrument.
