Although history books officially say it began in 1984, one could say this relationship based on lifelong loyalty and mutual admiration truly began a few years earlier, in late 1981. It was around this time that Lars bought his first CAMCO kit, a brand that had recently been acquired by TAMA's parent company, Hoshino Gakki. Not long after, that same drum kit debuted at Metallica's first-ever concert in March 1982.

The late 80s and early 90s saw the most iconic drum kits, as Lars preferred massive drum sizes and even larger kits, made possible by TAMA's commitment to innovation and design.
